About us

Rafiki wa Maendeleo Trust is a charitable organization that was originally formed to support the orphaned children in a rural area of Western Kenya.

Rafiki wa Maendeleo Trust has since developed into a support network that not only meets the basic needs of orphaned children, but equally important, has become a training ground for community members to learn skills that teach them how to improve their livelihoods. The orphan projects are creating a ripple effect that is assisting to reduce the number of people living below the poverty line, and is creating awareness that proactive efforts towards improving one’s skills and working together with others, is the key towards a hopeful future.

Mission

The aim for 2006-2007 is to strengthen the project’s current operations in Lusi Village and to begin similar projects in neighboring villages in western Kenya. Please support us in our efforts to continue empowering more communities. We believe that these efforts will enable communities to support their orphaned children, and to create a progressive future that breaks the pattern of dependency.

Organisation

Rafiki wa Maendeleo Trust is voluntarily managed by a Board of Trustees, assisted by international and local volunteers, and whose programs are implemented by a small group of paid local staff working in the community.

Our interest is not in our own personal financial gain, rather the satisfaction we experience in seeing others develop awareness and realization that they have the ability to progress and create change. It is the collective hope of this group, that is helping children and community members appreciate that they are worthy of creating a productive life.

Together, we have united as ‘Friends of Progress.’
